For many high school students, working a job is not optional. Some help support their families. Others are saving for college, gaining work experience, or managing adult responsibilities earlier than expected. At traditional high schools, rigid schedules often make this balance nearly impossible.

Finishing high school shouldn’t depend on a moment in the calendar. Many students have responsibilities that keep shifting, and a traditional school schedule leaves almost no room for real life. 

If you’re the first in your family to aim for college, the path can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. You’re juggling questions about applications, financial aid, majors, deadlines, and what college life even looks like.

Every year, Options For Youth (OFY) and Opportunities For Learning (OFL) host an exciting event called the Engineering Design Challenge (EDC). This student competition is designed to get high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math, also known as STEM. The EDC gives students a chance to solve real-world problems using simple, everyday materials. You do not need a fancy lab to be creative. All you need is teamwork, determination, and a willingness to learn.

Opportunities for Learning (OFL) offers flexible Credit Recovery and Enrichment programs for students who need to catch up, stay on track, or get ahead toward earning their high school diploma. Students can earn up to 15 credits in six weeks through guided independent study, online or in-person classes, and teacher support—all available year-round.

Irwindale, CA – On Friday, July 25th, two outstanding Opportunities For Learning (OFL) Baldwin Park seniors—Atziri Talavera and Autumn Davies—joined local business leaders, elected officials, and community members at the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Luncheon, featuring Congressman Gil Cisneros as keynote speaker. The luncheon focused on topics affecting regional industries such as insurance, real estate, and economic growth in the San Gabriel Valley.

Everyone should have the power to choose their own path-their own educational choice.
