At Opportunities For Learning, we know that no two students grow or learn in exactly the same way. Every child enters our programs with unique strengths, challenges, and stories—and that’s exactly why our counselors are an essential part of the OFL community. Our counselors help students develop the skills, confidence, and self-awareness they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Education isn’t linear. Whether a student is learning to read, managing friendships, or adjusting to a new learning environment, growth takes time—and support. At OFL, students are paired with dedicated counselors who work alongside families, teachers, and staff to ensure each child feels safe, seen, and supported.
Our counselors take the time to understand each student’s learning style, social-emotional needs, and family context. From small group check-ins to individualized support plans, counselors help create an environment where every learner can thrive.
“I believed in my dreams, and so did OFL. The teachers and staff at OFL gave me a direct path to them, ensuring I knew I deserved and could achieve what I aspired to..”
— Tommy P, OFL Alum Class of ’25
Some students need extra help expressing their emotions or asking for help. Others may need more structure, flexibility, or creative outlets to stay engaged. OFL counselors are trained to adapt support to meet these different needs. They collaborate closely with teachers, interventionists, and specialists to build personalized approaches that make learning meaningful and accessible.
You’ll often find counselors sitting with students during breaks, offering gentle encouragement, facilitating restorative conversations, or working behind the scenes to ensure students receive the tools and accommodations they need to grow
Counselor’s Corner:
“I love being able to support students and build connections with them. Watching them grow and accomplish their goals makes this the most rewarding career. “ Gretchen L., OFL Counselor
At OFL, students are more than their report cards or test scores. They are individuals with potential, promise, and purpose. Our counselors understand this—and they show up every day to nurture that potential with patience, compassion, and consistency.
