IRWINDALE - For 25 years, Opportunities for Learning - Baldwin Park has quietly served as a place of hope, resilience, and opportunity for students seeking a different path toward success. What began as a vision to provide students with a more personalized and flexible approach to education has grown into a lasting partnership with the Baldwin Park and Irwindale communities, helping thousands of students overcome challenges, rediscover confidence, and achieve their goals.
Authorized by the Baldwin Park Unified School District, the OFL-Baldwin Park charter school was created back in 2001 to serve students who needed an alternative educational setting that recognized every student’s unique circumstances and potential. Over the past two and a half decades, the school has become a lifeline for students facing a wide range of challenges — from balancing work and family responsibilities to overcoming credit deficiencies or mental health struggles. Others come to OFL simply looking for a more flexible path where they can learn at their own pace and graduate early.
Unlike traditional school models, OFL-Baldwin Park has built its success on individualized learning, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to meeting students where they are. Through independent study, small group instruction, career readiness opportunities, and personalized academic support, the school has created pathways for students who may have otherwise fallen through the cracks.
“Over the last 25 years, OFL-Baldwin Park has quietly changed the trajectory of countless lives,” said Richard Moreno, Director of Schools and former longtime principal of OFL-Baldwin Park. “Our students come to us with unique stories, challenges, and goals, and our mission has always been to help them realize that their circumstances do not define their future.”
While the school’s mission has remained the same, the programs and opportunities available to students have continued to evolve alongside the changing needs of students and families. Today, OFL-Baldwin Park offers flexible scheduling, online and in-person learning opportunities, workforce readiness experiences, dual enrollment pathways, and individualized support systems designed to help students prepare for college, careers, and life after graduation.

Director of Schools Richard Moreno and Principal Megan Betry address the attendees, sharing the school’s history and its ambitions for the future
Principal Megan Betry says the school’s greatest strength continues to be its people and culture of support.
“What makes OFL-Baldwin Park special is the belief that every student deserves a second chance, a fresh start, and adults who genuinely care about their success,” Betry said. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to create an environment where students feel seen, supported, and empowered. As we look ahead, we are excited to continue expanding opportunities and finding new ways to help students thrive.”
For students like Autumn Davies, OFL-Baldwin Park has been more than a school — it has been a turning point.
“Before coming to OFL-Baldwin Park, I felt like I was falling behind and didn’t really have a place where I fit in,” Autumn shared. “Here, the teachers and staff actually took the time to understand me and help me believe in myself again. This school gave me confidence and reminded me that I can still accomplish my goals.”

As OFL-Baldwin Park celebrates 25 years of service, school leaders say the focus remains on the future: continuing to innovate, strengthen community partnerships, and expand opportunities for the next generation of students who need a school willing to believe in them.
For a quarter century, OFL-Baldwin Park has stood as proof that when students are given flexibility, support, and genuine care, lives can be changed — one opportunity at a time.
